Moving Midvale Forward
Mayor Dustin Gettel was appointed to the position in December 2024 after serving two successful terms on the Midvale City Council. He has led transformative initiatives throughout his tenure, including revitalizing Main Street, establishing paid parental caregiver leave for city employees, and launching curbside glass recycling—all while keeping Midvale’s property taxes among the lowest in Salt Lake County.
As Mayor, Dustin remains committed to responsible growth, expanding outdoor recreation opportunities, strengthening public safety, and advocating for Midvale’s unsheltered population.
With a deep passion for his community and a proven record of delivering results, Dustin is running to continue building a thriving, inclusive city and to keep Midvale moving forward.
Housing and Homelessness
Midvale has taken a leading role in addressing homelessness and expanding deeply affordable housing. Dustin remains committed to advocating for the city’s unsheltered population and ensuring a diverse range of affordable housing options for all residents.
Parks and Public Lands
Dustin is committed to investing more in public parks and green spaces because they provide safe, accessible areas for recreation, relaxation, and social connection. These spaces also boost property values, support local ecosystems, and contribute to cleaner air and water.
Main Street Revitalization
The revitalization of Main Street has transformed the heart of Midvale into a vibrant, thriving destination for residents and businesses. Dustin’s vision has brought new energy to the area, attracting local investment, enhancing walkability, and preserving the city’s unique character.
Public Safety
Investing in public safety strengthens communities by reducing crime, improving emergency response times, and fostering a greater sense of security for residents. Dustin will continue building safer neighborhoods to encourage community engagement and enhance overall quality of life.
Transportation
Expanding transportation options strengthens community connections, eases traffic congestion, and gives residents reliable, sustainable ways to navigate. Dustin will push for smarter traffic solutions that improve mobility and ensure easier access to jobs, businesses, and essential services.
Libraries and Rec Centers
Midvale deserves a modern public library and a recreation center to better serve our growing community. With his strong personal relationships with key county elected officials, Dustin will be a powerful advocate for Midvale and have an instant seat at the table during the negotiation process.
About Dustin
Dustin Gettel grew up in a small Pennsylvania town best known for its famous potato rolls. From an early age, he developed a passion for public policy, eventually earning a master’s degree in healthcare law from Delaware Law School in 2009.
In 2015, Dustin moved to Utah when his partner accepted a new job. He quickly fell in love with the community, the stunning landscapes, and the crisp mountain air. Just a year later, he joined the Utah Department of Health as a Policy Analyst, bringing his commitment to public service to the state.
Shortly after settling in Midvale, Dustin had a close call with a speeding car while walking to the Bingham Junction TRAX station. Alarmed by the lack of pedestrian safety measures, he pushed for a crosswalk at the dangerous intersection—only to be met with bureaucratic red tape. Frustrated but determined, he ran for city council, defeating an incumbent in 2017 and securing re-election in 2021 with ease.
Outside of his work in public health policy, Dustin enjoys hiking, daily walks along the Jordan River Trail, too many podcasts to mention, and board and strategy games. He’s also a proud dad to his dogs, cat, and an ever-growing collection of plants.
